Karen Layland
Family Law Solicitor
Qualified in 1986
Supervised by Colin Michell
After graduating from the University of Birmingham, Karen relocated to Dorset in 2010. Since the 1990s Karen has gained a wealth of experience in Family Law. She has been a member of specialist panels for immigration, mental health, and children and has represented clients in a variety of courts. Karen has also taught family law at two universities and been an examiner at 3 universities that offer law courses. She is an accredited member of the Law Society Advanced Family Law Panel and was previously an assessor for solicitors wanting to be admitted to the Panel.
Karen ran her own firm from 1988 to 2021 and joined Harold G Walker in January 2022. She works on a part-time consultancy basis so that she can focus on assisting and working with clients to help them through what can be an anxious time.
Her wealth of experience enables Karen to quickly identify key issues and potential solutions to help clients move forward in a well-informed and supported manner. It is important for Karen that clients feel in control of their cases and their costs. She likes to take a proactive approach to move discussions forward and prefers to use round table meetings. Karen prefers to avoid Court proceedings where possible; however, if they are necessary will ensure she provides a robust and balanced approach.
Whilst Karen is based at the Verwood office, she is prepared to travel to the other branch offices as required.
Outside of work, Karen enjoys spending time with her children and loves being out and about in the Dorset countryside.
