Light Up The Prom Raises Over £8,000 for Bournemouth Hospital Charity and Macmillan Caring Locally

The evening of Friday 10th November saw the skies light up on Bournemouth’s Pier Approach in commemoration of loved ones who have lost their lives or have been affected by illness. The magical evening organised by Bournemouth Hospital Charity and Macmillan Caring Locally raised over £8,000 which will be shared between the two organisations.

The evening of remembrance was led by poignant tunes from Bournemouth’s Male Voice Choir, followed by a moving light service which took place on Bournemouth’s Pier Approach. As the crowd fell silent to remember their loved ones a sea of twinkling lights were lit in remembrance of those who are no longer with us. The two minute silence concluded with a spectacular fireworks display, courtesy of Pains Fireworks.

The event itself was well attended despite having been rescheduled due to storm ‘Brian’ hitting the South Coast in previous weeks. “We are thrilled once again by the support from the local people,” said Karen Smith, Light Up the Prom organiser. “We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated and shared this truly special evening with us.”

Corporate sponsors of Light Up the Prom, Harold G Walker Solicitors’ Managing Partner, Nicola Lowe commented; “this has been a magical evening and an event which our firm has been extremely proud to support. Light Up the Prom allows friends and families to come together to remember a loved one. It’s also an opportunity for people to express their heartfelt gratitude for all those who work tirelessly providing outstanding care and dignity to those suffering from illness.”

Light up the Prom raised an impressive £8,000 through donations  and the sale of tea lights, which will be divided between the two local charities. The money will fund a number of projects that will provide comfort and support for patients and their loved ones. These include staff training, additional equipment and resources for those receiving palliative care.
